Architects that were looking for windows and found a whole new world
Kharkiv architects and interior designers were trying to find out about what windows say, what curtains whisper and how the world is seen on both sides of the glass, as part of the photo contest "Window to the World", realized by DECOROOM.
"Window to the World" is a new phase of the project "Architecture through the eyes of an architect", which was started by Decoroom in the spring of 2014.
"The name is tautological only at the first glance”, – the director of the Kharkiv salon DECOROOM Alain Bratenko says. – “Homes live their lives, with their history and destiny, and we no longer see them quite as their creators did. And of course, houses and their parts are seen by other architects quite differently from the "mere spectators".
The contest participants received a task: to find window in the urban environment, which would “talk” to us, and make an unusual photo of one: whether it be with a modern camera, or a mobile phone. The main thing it had to be a new look at familiar buildings.
The collected photographs became the basis of the exhibition, which everyone could see inside the DECOROOM salon on Moskovskyi Ave, 2/2 from 9 to 19 September.
At the opening of the exhibition, architects and designers gathered in DECOROOM to look at the familiar city through each other’s eyes and see something never seen before, and at the same time play a photoquesto in the interior and congratulate the winners.
Winners
The Grand Prix for a series of photographs was taken by the Kharkiv master of architecture and design Yuri Ryntovt. With a friendly irony he was awarded a huge auction hammer, one that is used in the houses Sotheby's and Christie's. An excellent interior piece, by the way.
The 1st prize in the category "Monochrome photography" (and an interior Leaning-Tower-shaped statuette) was won by Alexey Bykov, another master of industrial design from Kharkiv.
The 1st prize in the category "Color photography" (as well as an interior statuette shaped like the Duomo dome), was won by the clothes designer Tatiana Novikova.
Finally, the one to get the Audience Award and a spyglass was the architect Yuri Tynda, for his excellent work "Dream of the future on the balcony."
Jury
“Architects and designers love taking pictures. In daily trips and just moving around the city, they are always trying to capture interesting details”, – continues Alain Bratenko. – “Their photos are always different both from those made by professional photographers, and those made by amateurs. They have other accents, different angles, different view of the world. "
Therefore, there was only one professional photographer in the jury – Andrew Avdeenko. The rest of the jury members were rather colleagues of the contestants: architects Tatiana Dryukova (inspirer of the competition) and Igor Lyalyuk, designer Vladimir Bondarenko and the artist, history of design teacher and expert on the architectural history of Kharkiv, Max Rosenfeld.

The guests of the "Window to the World" project became the first to know about the upcoming opening of a new salon Decoroom Home, SHOP-IN-SHOP as well.
